The Chenango Youth Philanthropy Council (CYPC) is a county-wide youth
engagement program that teaches junior and senior high school students
about Chenango County and the needs of the community. Participants
become more aware of their surroundings and community, gain an
understanding of volunteerism and the impact it has on society, and learn about fundraising and the ongoing challenges nonprofits face in the 21st century.
Over the course of the year, the council transitions into a foundation where participants develop a RFP process and make funding decisions about organizations they want to support in their community.
Norwich and Sherburne-Earlville high schools are the current council locations. Council meetings take place every other week. The entire council meets several times a year in Norwich for dynamic group discussions.
CYPC grant funds are made possible by the Community Foundation for South Central New York, Chobani and the RC Smith Foundation . This is a Chenango United Way funded program.
